Under the Affordable Care Act, an employer with 50 or more full-time employees, including full-time equivalent employees (FTEs) is considered a large employer. A full-time employee is an employee who works an average of 30 hours of service per week (or an average of 130 hours of service per month). So if a business has at least 51 employees working more than 30 hours every week, that business can qualify for large group coverage rates. Small group premiums are set by the insurance company, and once set, premiums are non-negotiable and can’t be discounted. By contrast, premiums for large group health plans are negotiated between the employer, the employer’s broker or benefit consultant, and the insurance company. Withrow Insurance works directly with carriers, to secure the best possible rates for your large group needs.
